It's like building a sandcastle at the beach... but with plants and little people running around!
Tidal Tribe is a god game inspired by titles like Populous, Doshin the Giant and From Dust where your abilities are reduced to the purest and most basic of divine powers: raising and lowering land. And while this might sound like a god who got ripped off when whatever supergod was distributing powers, when you live on a shore constantly hit by massive waves, this power is what decides the fate of your fellow NPCs.
You build the walls and ditches to protect their houses from the destructive force of nature, but at the same time you build rivers and lakes to use the creative side of this force, use the water to grow food and wood and see your village thrive. Or see those who stand in your way drown. It's your decision. You decide where to construct aqueducts to reach remote areas. You control how the land is used, what society you will create. You can help extinguishing fires... or not. See if your NPCs can handle it on their own. I mean, I walked around a lot recording all these bird sounds and stuff to make it a relaxing world where you can just wander around and enjoy it, you don't always have to work your butt off.
After all, sometimes even a god might prefer to just spend some time in his garden, plant trees and grow fruits. And that's a good thing, because that's a big part of the game (shall we add Harvest Moon to the list of inspirations?). There are different types of plants, all with different preferences and fruits they provide. Some only grow close to the sea, others far away, some need a lot of sunlight, others prefer shadowy hills. Some give food, some potable water, others medicine (and some provide bananas because how boring would a world be where you couldn't place banana peels on the ground?). It is your mission to create terrain that yields enough of the different types to satisfy the needs of your people.
- Completely dynamic world: deformable terrain, water flowing according to the terrain as well as eroding it, vegetation growing depending on the water and terrain, villages expanding and shrinking
- Different types of plants with different needs, fruits and effects.
- NPCs with (hopefully) interesting and fun AI: they perform their daily tasks, build houses and factories, have fun, have children, they can cooperate, they can become egotistical jerks, they might have to become criminals, they might have to fight. But they surely have to take a bath! (always provide enough soap berries...)
- Lots of parameters to provide different experiences in different levels (wave size and frequency, amount of erosion, how fast does water seep away, AI behavior, parasites,...)
- Played in first person for better immersion in the world
- 3 game modes
- Campaign with fun story, different endings, minigames, varied side missions,...
- Challenge mode
- Free game
- Created entirely by one person (programming, graphics, music, sound effects,...)
- Genre: God game / Artificial life game
- Platforms: Windows, Linux, possibly Mac
- Engine: Custom
- Release Date: Hopefully 2017
